ENT follow-up

The picture I posted of Wyatt's new haircut was actually taken after leaving the ER on Sunday morning.  Wyatt woke up that morning with the lower, left side of his face swollen.  He was crying and saying his ear hurt.  After a discussion with the advice nurse we were told to bring him in the ER.  Wyatt fought off the triage ER nurse and nearly bit her.  She pulled away just in time.  She was actually pretty upset, but regained her composure.  The doctor concluded Wyatt likely had a blocked salivary gland.  We were told to have him suck on sour candies and given antibiotics.  He also got a pain killer, but hasn't needed it.

In fact, later in the day the swelling went down substantially, but he still had a distinct, red patch on his face.  We were told to follow-up with the ENT doctor I had already scheduled for today because of the whole "bug" in the ear thing.

The ENT thought his quick recovery means it was likely not the salivary gland.  Most of the things it could be wouldn't have gone away that fast either.  Maybe it was a dermatitis or a swollen lymph node.  He didn't think we should worry about it.  More concerning in his mind is Wyatt's ear drum and fluid in his left ear.  He said he wanted Wyatt to come back for a hearing test and to start him on some over the counter antihistamine.  He said with the snoring and congestion (which I think is chronic), he would normally look at the adenoids and taking them out, but with a cleft palate they like to leave the adenoids in because they help with speech by pressing on the palate.  He said Wyatt may need to get the tube in his left ear replaced.
