More residuals

So we did end up taking last night "off" and saw a movie. We saw The Dark Night. It was really good. There were a couple of moments (evacuation of hospital and threat to Commisioner Gordon's son) that reminded both Rus and I of Wyatt during the movie.

We checked in on him earlier just to make sure that he was OK because he had had a large residual earlier in the day. Rus actually had to go in to the NICU because we ran out of bottles for the pump and we stupidly forgot to get some earlier in the day. Rus was told Wyatt did not have a residual at his later feeds.

However, this morning we found out Wyatt had a rough night, threw-up, and had three residuals. Pat showed us the residual she had just took and said that there was curdling, which showed his body was trying to digest, but for some reason it just wasn't happening. They took an x-ray to make sure he did not have an bowel obstruction or necrotizing enterocolitis. He was fine. Pat thinks that they just upped his feed a little two fast. They might back off and give his gut a rest. I felt bad we didn't come to see him, but it is likely that it wouldn't have made a difference.

We changed his diaper and took his temperature and since he woke up and started howling, Pat let Rus hold him. She was a afraid he was a little exhausted so wasn't going to let us hold him if he stayed asleep. I shouldn't have let that doctor examine him yesterday, but Wyatt will get over it. Actually, I guess he did get over it because he was pretty calm when Rus held him and didn't cry when we put him back.

The doctor actually came by to talk to us about the residuals and x-ray. We didn't get much in addition to what Pat told us accept that we now see that the nurses often have differing opinions than the doctors. Sherry, who was watching him the other day, also seemed like she was a little concerned about them upping his feed too fast. The doctor said that they won't know how they tolerate the feed until they try. I tend to trust the nurses.

Besides getting chubbier, his nose is more pronounced and his ears have cartilage so they have ridges instead of lying flat. The ears didn't come in at the same time, but they look OK now. I think that he looks more and more like Rus, but it is still hard to tell.
