Dr. Baker's visit was uneventful. He only showed up after the Dr. Alexander called him although he was supposed to be there during rounds. He walked up, all too jolly for my taste, and asked us if we had any questions. We looked at him blankly. We thought he was coming to do a more thorough examination and tell us some stuff, but apparently not. So we asked questions, although truth be told I didn't have anything. Wyatt is being tested for Velo-Cardio-Facial Syndrome (VCF). I was told not to look on the internet. Dr. Baker believes Wyatt's cleft is isolated, but this is the one syndrome he can't assess by looking at him. He said since he does not appear to have any issues with his heart it is unlikely. (Although the nurse last night reported all of a sudden that she heard a murmur. That's new. The doctors on rounds looked puzzled and glossed over it. Dr. Curry hadn't heard a murmur when she examined him. They said something to keep an eye on.)
Dr. Baker downplayed the chances of Wyatt having VCF. He said 1% chance. Do you know how many 1% chance things have happened during this pregnancy? Please. That's when his jolly attitude really started to get on my nerves. At first he told us he was already being tested and the results generally take two weeks. Then later he said they would draw blood for the test at the next scheduled blood draw. Maybe I should have told him not to do the test.
VCF has no bearing on his breathing problems.
In other news, Kylee pet Jane. It all happened so fast. I thought I was going to have a heart attack, but luckily Jane did not strike Kylee. Jane was generally fearful of Kylee and hissed at her as long as she was in sight. Kylee kept calling for Oreo, meowing and making kitty call noises at Jane.
Kami tried the soft, quiet and patient approach She got close to Jane, but couldn't make contact.
Eric walked in and put his hand down and Jane immediately went up to him and sniffed him. Then she rubbed against him. I guess evil knows evil. Maybe Jane wanted to mark him with his scent.
Kami and Eric walked away from Jane with the impression she is an evil cat, not to be trusted. Kylee was none the wiser.
Yesterday, we looked at some pictures of Kylee on the bulletin board. One was hidden behind a coupon for pizza. It is a picture of Kylee and grandma Golz. Today Kylee motioned to be picked up so she could look at the bulletin board, immediately lifted the flyer and said "grandma." She was obviously looking for the picture of grandma and remembered it was there.

Gee, I don't know how Eric and Kami could possibly have gotten that impression of that sweet, mild-mannered little purball Jane.
ReplyDeleteAt least the cat is consistently anti-social so none of us should take her hissing personally!
